OYBC Trip to Museum of Biological Diversity & Hogback Ridge Nature Center - Columbus area

OYBC Trip to Museum of Biological Diversity & Hogback Ridge Nature Center - Columbus area

OYBC members met at the museum at 10:00 AM and were given an overview of the collection by David Horn and John Condit. After an early lunch David Horn and staff from Preservation Parks, the trip sponsor, gave the group lessons on how to "skin" a bird. While learning the technique of skinning, we met the OOS board. They were having their quarterly meeting at the museum that day.

The Saw-wet Owl banding portion of the trip was canceled because of rainy weather conditions but after going out to dinner the group spent the night at the nature center and woke up to 9 Fox Sparrows scratching below the bird feeders and many Carolina Chickadees.

After a morning bird walk led by Tom Bain at the preserve where we saw some impressive pileated excavating, the group headed home (some of us to snowy conditions).

It was a great trip! Thank you Preservation Parks of Delaware County (Jackie & Kim) and thank you to David Horn, Tom Bain and John Condit.
