About me
I'm an adult supporting member of the Ohio Young Birders Club, and I recently became its membership coordinator. If you have any ideas for reaching and attracting young nature admirers to the group, drop me a note below.
I started birding in the fall of 1999. Warblers are my favorite group of birds with the Magnolia Warbler being my favorite.
I have volunteered with the Black Swamp Bird Observatory for several years, primarily with the spring hawk watch. My photo is from a "chilly" hawk watch day at the end of February on the tower at Magee Marsh. The best sighting that day was seeing three Golden-crowned Kinglets, flitting through the bushes around the tower. GCKI is one tough bird, although redpolls seem to get the publicity.
One of my favorite aspects of birding is being on the tower in March, regardless of the weather because in March, something is always flying along the lake shore even on bad weather days. Ducks, geese, Tundra Swans, blackbirds, Killdeer, American Robins, American Crows, and on good days, low-flying Red-shouldered Hawks buzz the tower. I think the RSHA is the nicest looking raptor that moves through our area. Golden-crowned Kinglets, Fox Sparrows, Eastern Phoebes, Rusty Blackbirds, Yellow-rumped Warblers, and others hang around in the bushes and water by the tower in March.
